Edmond couple considering offers on home listed for a buck

EDMOND — Hopeful sellers of the “$1 house” were banking on high interest, and they got it, real estate agent Ryan Hukill said.

Inquiries came in “tons” after Hukill listed Dan and Sharla Bradley’s four-bedroom, fourbath, 4,036-square-foot home for sale on Friday for $1.

It was meant as a starting point for a kind of auction on the Multiple Listing Service, and an experiment to test the market: Could a bidding war develop from $1 and lead to a profitable sale?

“We do have multiple offers and are still working on those. Nothing nailed down yet,” Hukill said Wednesday.

Late Wednesday, he

said the Bradleys were close to accepting an offer. He said initial offers were taken until Tuesday.

Hukill, an agent with Keller Williams Elite in Oklahoma City, said neither a sale price nor buyer would be immediately revealed. No contract would be settled, of course until a sale closed.

The Bradleys built their custom home at 9852 W Charter Oak Road, on 2 acres on the northeast corner at N Pennsylvania Avenue, in 2012.

It’s in an area of Logan County, in the Deer Creek school district, that is a combination of neighborhoods and homes on acreages. Hukill said the location made it difficult to use comparable sales in determining an asking price.

So, at his instigation, the Bradleys decided to ask for $1 to get things started.

“What we’ve done is kind of created a little bit of a storm, a lot of good publicity and some questions out there, as well,” Hukill said during open house Sunday afternoon, a sunny day that attracted a steady stream of the curious.

“We priced this home at $1, and I think a lot of folks just aren’t sure how to respond to that. It’s been really fun and neat so far. We had a lot of (online) viral action — tons of phone calls, text messages and emails, so many I can’t even keep up.”
