Multiple super-teams needed to face threat

- Matthew Price mprice@ oklahoman.com

How do you face a threat bigger than the Justice League? In the miniseries “No Justice” from DC Comics, it appears to take four Justice Leagues.

As discussed with comics retailers at the ComicsPRO annual conference in January, “Justice League: No Justice” follows up on the events of “Dark Nights: Metal ,” as the thought impenetrable Source Wall was breached. Now, the Justice League must see what threatens the multiverse’s existence in “Justice League: No Justice,” the first issue of which went on sale Wednesday. Writer Scott Snyder (“Dark Nights: Metal”) will join co-writers James Tynion IV and Joshua Willamson and artist Francis Manapul for the weekly series.

“We thought we knew the entire map of the DC cosmos,” Snyder said in a news release. “We thought we had explored all there was to explore. But now we know that all this time the Multiverse was nothing but a fishbowl, and now we’ve been dumped into the ocean, unleashing terrifying new threats, and wondrous new possibilities. ‘Metal’ opened up channels of storytelling that Francis, James, Joshua and I are excited to explore in a big way. When we’re finished, fans will never look at the Justice League in the same way again.”

An introduction to the “No Justice” storyline can be found in the specially priced 25-cent “DC Nation” #0 comic, on sale at comic shops, or free online at readdc. com.

In the five-part series, the supervillain Brainiac arrives on Earth to warn the Justice League that an extinction-level menace is on its way. To defeat the threat, Brainiac says, heroes and villains must be selected into a variety of teams to strike back.

In “DC Nation #0,” the Justice League characters are formed into four separate teams by Brainiac:

Team Mystery: Superman, Martian Manhunter, Starfire, Sinestro and Starro.

Team Wonder: Wonder Woman, Zatanna, Dr. Fate, Raven and Etrigan.

Team Wisdom: Cyborg, Robin, Atom, Flash and Harley Quinn.

Team Entropy: Batman, Deathstroke, Beast Boy, Lobo and Lex Luthor.

Manapul says the action in the series will be nonstop.

“I’m laying out the biggest action of my life,” Manapul said in a news release. “The Justice League realizes that they need to expand their reach to become something bigger than they have ever been before.”

“No Justice” #1 is on sale now, with #2 set for a Wednesday release.
