OKC school board to meet with superintendent hopefuls
Oklahoma City School Board members will return to the Skirvin Hilton Hotel on Friday afternoon to meet with remaining superintendent hopefuls.
Three people are in the hunt to lead Oklahoma's largest school district, The Oklahoman has learned.
While their identities remain a secret, one candidate is said to be "liked" by a majority of the board.
A special board meeting is scheduled for 2 p.m. in the Balinese room on the hotel's second floor.
If a majority of members are present, they will enter into executive session to privately discuss the position with the finalists
Board members could return to the downtown hotel Saturday for more discussions.
In late April, the board met with an undisclosed number of candidates.
Some panel members have said they would like to have a permanent replacement for Aurora Lora by the end of May.
Rebecca Kaye is serving as acting superintendent.
Lora resigned Jan. 30 after serving less than two years. She was the district's 11th superintendent since 2000.
Only Ruth Veales, Gloria Torres, Paula Lewis and Carrie Copernoll Jacobs remain from the board that voted unanimously to make Lora the permanent superintendent on July 1, 2016.
The board selected Lora, an assistant superintendent in charge of curriculum at the time, without interviewing another person.
The Oklahoma State School Boards Association is assisting the Oklahoma City district board with the superintendent selection and hiring process.
