Oklahoma State’s softball season is heading to Fayetteville, Arkansas, for the regional round of the NCAA Tournament.

The Cowgirls (38-20) will head to the fourteam regional hosted by Arkansas, the top seed in the regional and the No. 13 seed overall in the field. Seeded No. 2 in the regional, OSU will open play against Wichita State (30-21) at 1:30 p.m. Friday. Arkansas will face DePaul at 4 p.m.

“I’m just excited about our team and everything that they’ve done to be a two-seed,” Gajewski said of the regional pairing. “This time of year, none of these things are easy. All of these teams are very good, and we’re familiar with these teams.”

Oklahoma State lost both meetings with Wichita State this season, dropping a 5-3 decision in Stillwater and a 9-6 game on the Shockers’ home field. The Cowgirls did not face Arkansas or DePaul in the regular season.

Led by Big 12 Player of the Year Vanessa Shippy, Oklahoma State is making its third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance in Gajewski’s third season at the helm. Gajewski is the first OSU coach to lead the Cowgirls to the NCAA Tournament in each of the first three years as coach.

Wichita State is making its third NCAA Tournament appearance, while the Cowgirls are making their 21st overall.

The winner of the Arkansas regional will face the winner of Oklahoma’s regional, which includes fourth-seeded OU, Tulsa, Missouri and Boston.

That means there could be a Bedlam super regional in a best-of-3 series at OU for a spot in the Women’s College World Series.
