Cano breaks hand when hit by pitch

Robinson Cano broke his right hand when hit by a pitch from left-hander Blaine Hardy in the third inning of the Seattle Mariners’ 5-4 loss to the Detroit Tigers on Sunday.

The Seattle star, who has played in at least 150 in 11 straight years, said he might need surgery.

Jose Iglesias hit a gameending single off Juan Nicasio (1-2), and Niko Goodrum homered and had three hits for the Tigers.

Beltre hurts left hamstring again

Texas third baseman Adrian Beltre left Sunday’s 6-1 loss to Houston in the seventh inning after aggravatin­g a left hamstring injury.

Beltre fielded a Max Stassi slow chopper and was trying to tag Yuli Gurriel at third on the play before he came out.

Ohtani dominates Twins, Angels rally

Shohei Ohtani struck out 11 while pitching three-hit ball into the seventh inning, and Zack Cozart got a walk-off RBI single in the Los Angeles Angels’ 2-1 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Sunday.

Ohtani was dominant again in his sixth big-league start, but the Angels’ twoway sensation was denied his fourth win when he left after walking Logan Morrison on nine pitches in the seventh. Reliever Cam Bedrosian promptly allowed two hits, including pinch-hitter Joe Mauer’s tying RBI single.

Stanton powers Yankees past A’s

Giancarlo Stanton went 4 for 4 with a home run and three RBI, sending Luis Severino and the New York Yankees to a 6-2 victory over the Oakland Athletics after a long rain delay Sunday in New York.

Severino (6-1) struck out seven in six innings as New York won for the 19th time in 22 games to remain tied with rival Boston for the best record in the majors at 28-12. Aaron Hicks drove in two runs, Aaron Judge extended his RBI streak to seven games and the Yankees took two of three from Oakland to win their seventh consecutiv­e series.
