RECYCLING 101
• The new green carts are for recyclable materials only. They aren’t for regular household trash, yard waste or hazardous waste.
• Customers should place recyclable materials loose, not bagged, in their carts or the drop-off dumpsters.
• To ensure pickup, curbside customers should have their cart at the curbside no later than 6 a.m. on their pickup day.
Approved recyclable materials include:
Office paper, newspaper, junk mail, phone books and paperback books; glass bottles and jars (rinsed and drained); aluminum foil and foil products, steel food cans (rinsed and drained, labels can stay on); plastic kitchen, laundry and bathroom containers (emptied and rinsed with lids back on); cardboard, including cereal and food boxes, and corrugated cardboard (flattened, clean and free from food and grease residue); paper cartons such as milk or juice cartons, and frozen food boxes.
Materials that will not be accepted include:
Plastic bags (including plastic grocery bags, dry cleaning bags or trash bags); Styrofoam products and packing materials; plastic containers from hazardous waste products like motor oils or household poisons; window or mirror glass, automotive glass, ceramics or heat-resistant kitchen glass; yard waste like grass clippings and tree or landscape trimmings; tires and automotive parts; and medical waste.
