Speaker to offer tips for genealogy road trips
The upcoming Oklahoma Genealogical Society meeting will offer guidance on preparing for a genealogy road trip.
Walt Stoyanoski, Oklahoma Genealogical Society board member, will speak at 6 p.m. June 4 in the Chesapeake Room of the Oklahoma History Center, 800 Nazih Zuhdi Drive.
Using a road trip that he and his sister took to New England as an example, Stoyanoski will provide guidance on what things a person should prepare for before departing on a trip.
He will highlight some of the interesting things they found and the people they met on the journey.
After retiring, Stoyanoski became interested in genealogy while going through his deceased aunt’s family history research papers and began searching for his greatgrandmother’s grave.
He is now trying to improve on his aunt’s work and document information she was unable to find.
He and his grandson have made ancestor hunting trips to Oklahoma, Missouri, Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin. He and his sister have been to Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont. He enjoys the detective work and walking where his ancestors once walked.
The meeting is free and open to the public. Membership is open to anyone interested in historical or genealogical research. For more information, go to www.okgensoc.org.
