Methodist meeting
The Oklahoma United Methodist Conference led by Bishop Jimmy Nunn will meet for its annual conference Tuesday through Thursday at Oklahoma City University.

The conference will be at OCU’s Freede Center, NW 27 and Florida, with the exception of a worship service at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 222 NW 15. The theme for the gathering is “Quest.”
Heidi McCray, a conference spokeswoman, said the annual meeting typically begins on Memorial Day, but United Methodists voted to change the starting date to the day after the holiday. She said the conference will begin on Tuesday morning and end at 3 p.m. Thursday.
The Rev. Jimmy Nunn, bishop of the Oklahoma United Methodist Conference, will lead the proceedings. Between 1,200 and 1,500 delegates, plus their families, are expected to attend.
McCray said one of the highlights of the gathering will be the ordination service at St. Luke’s on Wednesday. She said Nunn is expected to ordain 15 people to the United Methodist ministry.
As in years past, the conference will be live-streamed via the conference’s mobile app or from the faith organization’s home page at https:// www.okumc.org.
Other conference highlights: A special offering will be received to raise money to purchase the devotional “Strength for Service” to distribute to first responders across the state.
Nunn will call for a concerted disaster relief effort called “Let’s Finish This.” McCray said this is a big push for volunteers and other aid to help with some of the not-yet-completed homes that were destroyed or damaged in the 2015 floods in Oklahoma. She said the Oklahoma Conference has identified about 200 homes in which disaster relief recovery has not yet been conducted.
Delegates will hear a report that giving and hands-on mission efforts have increased among the conference’s churches.
