OU SOFTBALL
grounder ended OU’s season.
It was dismal ending to a frustrating weekend for Oklahoma’s leadoff hitter.
“You know, Syd’s got such a big heart, and like they all say, they love this team,” said. “She wants to be the leadoff. She almost was pressing a little bit too much. You could see that. I wouldn’t take her out of the leadoff because she’s been it all year. Just felt like she would get through it, and she worked, she tried. Sometimes that happens.”
Romero went 0-for-4 on Sunday, following up a 1-for-7 performance between both of Saturday’s games. In the first game against Washington, Romero went 1-for-3.
“Look at what she’s done in the last two years,” Gasso said. “She’s been our hero. I think she knew that. Maybe she pressed a little bit for it, but she’s an All-American, and rightly so. We wouldn’t be here without her.” on Sunday, the Sooners couldn’t bring anyone home.
OU stranded all seven that reached base, continuing a trend that plagued the Sooners throughout the WCWS.
In four games, OU left 25 on base.
There was a little bit of deja vu for the Sooners when UW right fielder
made another diving catch in right field Sunday afternoon.
It robbed of a base hit and was reminiscent of Melhart’s catch on another one of Knighten’s hits in Thursday’s game.
“I can’t really explain it,” Melhart said. “I’m just happy I could perform for my team and hold them to not getting a run so we could keep the momentum, keep scoring runs and help us win that game.”
Senior pitcher
on her experience at OU since transferring from Missouri:
“I transferred here two years ago. I was in a really bad place, and everyone here just really opened their arms to me and made me feel safe and welcome. Learned how to trust again. I mean, this place is just super genuine, and nothing is bull crap, like everything they say is what they mean, and everyone grows here and becomes women.”
