South Carolina advances to super regional

-

Madison Stokes drove in three runs, Jonah Bride hit a late home run and South Carolina advanced to the super regionals by beating UNC Wilmington 8-4 on Monday.

After sweeping three games in Greenville, South Carolina, the second-seeded Gamecocks (36-24) will face Southeastern Conference rival Arkansas, the No. 5 national seed, in a best-ofthree series this weekend in Fayetteville.

Carlos Cortes had four hits and Hunter Taylor added two RBIs to help South Carolina earn its 13th super regional berth and second in three years.

Stokes had a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the sixth and a two-run double an inning later that made it 6-3. Bride's two-run homer in the ninth made it a five-run game.

Kep Brown homered and drove in two runs, and Mason Berne had the other two RBIs for the fourthseeded Seahawks (39-23).

Duke sweeps Georgia to advance

Griffin Conine homered twice and Duke earned the first super regional berth in school history by sweeping two games from Georgia on Monday, beating the Bulldogs 8-5 and 8-4 in the NCAA Tournament in Athens, Georgia.

Jimmy Herron and Zack Kone also homered in the winner-take-all game Monday night to send the second-seeded Blue Devils (44-16) into a best-of-three super regional series at No. 9 national seed Texas Tech this weekend.

Kone's three-run homer in the third put Duke ahead 3-2, and Conine — who also homered in the first game — followed with a solo shot. The son of former major leaguer Jeff Conine also connected in the seventh.

Texas wins Austin regional

Kody Clemens hit a tiebreaking double in the seventh inning, Chase Shugart struck out two with the bases loaded in the ninth and Texas clinched its 10th Super Regional berth with a 3-2 win over Indiana in the NCAA Tournament late Sunday night.

Shugart finished the Longhorns' sweep of their home Austin Regional by striking out Matt Lloyd on three pitches after Mason Hibbeler appeared to make the winning catch.

The left fielder reached over the wall in foul territory only to have the ball come out of his glove as Hibbeler turned back toward the field and started to celebrate.

Umpires ruled it wasn't a catch, and the stunned Longhorns had to keep playing.

The Longhorns (40-20), seeded 13th nationally, advanced out of a regional for the first time since their record 35th College World Series appearance in 2014.

Red Raiders sweep regional

Zach Rheams homered twice, including a three-run shot in the first inning, Davis Martin took a shutout into the fifth and host Texas Tech swept the Lubbock Regional, rolling to an 11-6 victory over Louisville late Sunday night.
