Authors to speak at meeting

Two local women will share excerpts from their books at the National Alliance on Mental Illness’s June EdTalk.

The meeting will start at 6:30 p.m. June 12 at Oakwood Springs, 13101 Memorial Springs Court.

Helen Coffey, who facilitate­s a support group for people who lost a loved one to suicide, will tell some of her daughter’s story from her book “Don’t Let Anyone Know, A Story About Mental Illness.” Allison Palmer, a University of Oklahoma professor, wrote a novel called “The Sun King” that blends fiction with her family’s story.

Wellness coalition will meet

The Wellness Coalition will hold a workshop about “communitie­s of solutions” at noon June 13.

The group will meet at the Oklahoma CityCounty Health Department’s northeast campus, 2600 NE 63.

Hospice seeks volunteers

Integris Hospice is looking for volunteers to support patients in Oklahoma City and nine surroundin­g counties.

Volunteers run errands for caregivers, stay with patients while family members take a break, or assist hospice staff with day-to-day tasks.

Volunteers must attend a training session. Carol Prewitt, the volunteer services manager, said the training will be scheduled after learning about the interest and availabili­ty of volunteers. For more informatio­n, call Prewitt, 848-8884.

Employment agency expands

The Galt Foundation recently opened a second Oklahoma office in Tulsa.

The foundation attempts to match people with disabiliti­es with jobs where they earn the same wages as co-workers without disabiliti­es. It already has an office in Oklahoma City.

New clinic to break ground

HealthCare Express will break ground on a new clinic at noon on Thursday.

The clinic will be on E Second Street in Edmond between Vista Lane and Wayne Martin Road.

HealthCare Express does pre-employment physicals, drug screening, workers’ compensati­on exams and DNA testing.
