Oklahoma’s Kyler Murray has reached a deal with the Oakland Athletics that will guarantee him close to $5 million and will allow him to remain with the Sooners’ football team for the upcoming season.

Oklahoma's Kyler

Murray didn't wait long to make things official with the Oakland A's.

Murray has reached a deal with the club, FRSBaseball.com's Jon Heyman reported Wednesday evening.

According to Heyman, Murray's deal will guarantee him close to $5 million and — as expected — allow him to remain with the Sooners' football team for the upcoming season.

Murray was the No. 9 overall pick in Monday's first round of the Major League Baseball Draft. The slot value for the pick is close to $4.7 million but it appears Murray will top that.

Murray is the frontrunner to be Oklahoma's starting quarterback this season.

Five Cowboys taken on draft’s final day

The number 13 turned out to be lucky for Oklahoma State.

It took until the 13th round of the MLB Draft for a Cowboy to come off the board, with the Kansas City Royals selecting righthander Jonathan Heasley with the 392nd overall pick. Heasley, who posted a 5.96 ERA this season, was draft-eligible as a sophomore because he is 21 years old.

Three rounds later, lefthander Carson Teel went to the Washington Nationals. Teel, a redshirt junior out of Stillwater, was a member of the All-Big 12 First Team. The Boston Red Sox took him in the 27th round of last year's draft.

A year after the Philadelphia Phillies selected Matt Kroon in the 30th round out of Central Arizona, they drafted him in the 18th round after his productive junior season as a Cowboy. Kroon was the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year, hitting .300 with 11 home runs, 18 doubles and 18 steals.

In the 28th round, the Los Angeles Dodgers drafted junior right-hander

Reza Aleaziz. Jon Littell, a Stillwater product who started in the Cowboys' outfield for the past four seasons, joined Aleaziz as a Dodgers draftee in the 37th round.

Littell was the lone senior among OSU's draftees. The others have until July 6 to decide whether to return to Stillwater or begin their professional careers.

OCU’s Milligan, Figueroa picked

Oklahoma City University has had nearly 160 former players play professional baseball and now the number of players drafted has reached 175.

Both Lane Milligan and Miguel Figueroa were selected Wednesday after big springs.

Milligan, a catcher and outfielder, was picked in the 17th round at No. 517 overall by the Boston Red Sox. The older brother of Oklahoma State freshman Cody Milligan, Lane batted .462 with 15 homers and 90 RBIs while also setting the NAIA single-season record with 15 triples. He also led the NAIA in RBIs, hits and triples.

Figueroa, a junior right-handed pitcher, was selected in the 24th round, No. 732 overall, by the Houston Astros. He was 3-2 with a 4.50 ERA, two saves and 48 strikeouts.
