HEALTH NOTES
West Nile virus found in state
The Oklahoma City-County Health Department found West Nile virus in a sample of mosquitoes last week.
West Nile can cause a fever, headache, body aches and sometimes a rash. A small percentage of infected people develop life-threatening neurological symptoms.
To reduce the odds of being bitten by a mosquito, get rid of stagnant water around your property or use “dunks” to kills mosquito larvae. Wear insect repellent containing DEET when you plan to spend time outdoors.
