Survey finds dads actually care about Father’s Day gifts
Have you bought your Father’s Day gifts yet? If not, be careful what you pick out. Families get it out of order and at times, all wrong, according to a recent survey by San Francisco-based Ebates. com cash-back shopping website.
We think Dad wants tools most, followed by electronics, hobby essentials, beer and outdoor equipment. But dads really want electronics first (38 percent), then tools (33 percent), beer (29 percent), outdoor equipment (26 percent) and tickets to an event (24 percent).
They say candy and ties are the worst gifts.
Whatever you do, get Dad something.
Of more than 1,000 U.S. adults polled online by Propeller Insights for Ebates, half thought dads didn’t really want gifts. But that’s true for only 7 percent of fathers who responded to the survey.
About half of Americans plan to spend fewer than $25 on a gift for Dad, while 8 percent will shell out more than $100.
Fathers and husbands
Fellow Midwest City High School runner Charlie Brockman said his worst Father’s Day gift was a tie and his best was an Odyssey putter. Meanwhile, friends Melven Tallbull and Randy Sachs say their most cherished gifts have been family meals and presents crafted by their kids, respectively.
On the latter note, I remember a big cardboard card with a pig on the cover that my sister, brother and I made for our beloved “Daddy,” which is funny since I collect pig figurines, doorstops, ornaments and more.
My Kappa Alpha Theta sorority sisters at Oklahoma State University already know what they're getting their husbands. Sonya Howard said her husband, Scott, wants tickets to Jimmy Buffet/Eagles concert the end of June at Coors Field in Denver. Meanwhile, Laura Basden said her husband, Larry, always asks their boys for a work day at their lake house on Lake Texoma.
Tom Carpenter and his three sons have their own annual Father’s Day tradition.
“Every year, we enter a barbecue contest. Last year, we won the People's Choice at The Hawg Wild and Chrome in Chandler,” he said. “Our time together is the best!”
