Chickasaws to hold candidate forum

PURCELL — The Purcell Chickasaw Community Council will host a candidate forum at 6 p.m. Friday in the Community Room at the Purcell Public Library, 919 N Ninth.

All candidates running for any Chickasaw Nation office in the upcoming election are invited to attend to present their platforms and answer questions.

Refreshmen­ts will be served. Citizens attending are invited to bring a plate of their favorite cookies or brownies, but, because of some members’ allergies, please do not include nuts.

Haydn Festival to feature concerts

The Oklahoma Haydn Festival will present orchestra and chamber music concerts this month across central Oklahoma.

Orchestra concerts are scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday and 7 p.m. June 23 at Casady School, 9500 N Pennsylvan­ia Ave.

Chamber music concerts are scheduled for 7 p.m. Sunday at Good Shepherd Church, 1000 N Broadway in Edmond; 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Guthrie Public Library, 201 N Division St.; 1 p.m. June 22 at the Center of Family Love, 635 Texas Ave. in Okarche; and 7 p.m. June 22 at Ellis Island Coffee and Wine Lounge, 130 N Broadway in Edmond.

The chamber concerts will feature works for piano trio, string quartet, piano sonata, and piano and cello duo. Musicians are participan­ts of the Oklahoma Haydn Festival, under the direction of artistic director and conductor Jim Waddelow.

Admission to the orchestra concerts is a $10 suggested donation. The chamber concerts are free, but donations will be accepted.

The Oklahoma Haydn Festival celebrates the works, ideas and ongoing influence of Joseph Haydn by immersing Oklahoma audiences in a summer festival experience that integrates music, education and community engagement.

Sewing guild to host July 4 project

The Oklahoma City Chapter of American Sewing Guild will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Will Rogers Garden Center, 3400 NW 36.

The meeting is a brown bag dinner and hands-on Fourth of July project.

All materials will be provided. But bring a sack dinner and visit with members while you eat and work on the project. Don’t forget your sew-n-share.

Edmond road project to begin

EDMOND —

Monday.

The project is expected to take about 60 days with cooperativ­e weather. The area of Douglas Boulevard to be reconstruc­ted is between Covell Road and Danforth Road. The road will remain open during this project, but motorists should expect periodic closures and various lane shifts. Delays should be expected, and motorists are encouraged to find an alternate route if possible.

This project is being conducted by Oklahoma County District No. 3 through an interlocal agreement with the city of Edmond. The total cost is $170,000. Work to reconstruc­t a section of Douglas Boulevard will begin on
