Four area Girl Scouts have completed the highest and most prestigious award that can be earned as a Girl Scout — the Gold Award.

The girls were awarded their Gold Award for their hard work and dedication to their projects. The goal of the Gold Award is to set a foundation for active citizenship throughout a woman’s life and is the culmination of her Girl Scout leadership experience.

In May, more than 200 girls were recognized in a ceremony for their efforts in earning the Bronze, Silver and Gold awards.

This year’s Gold Award recipients are: Faith DeSplinter, of Mustang; Katera Morales, of Edmond; Harley Sample, of Mooreland; and Krista Stansbury, of Guthrie.

To earn the Gold Award, each girl must identify an issue, investigate it thoroughly, receive help and build a team, create and present a plan, gather feedback, and act, educate and inspire others.

DeSplinter partnered with the National Alliance of Mental Illness to create a Mental Health Expo at her school to raise awareness about resources available to those who may need assistance. In the fall, DeSplinter will attend Oklahoma City Community College and major in early childhood education.

Morales partnered with The Children’s Rehabilitation Center to create Kits for Kids. In the fall, Morales will attend the University of Oklahoma and major in business.

Sample partnered with Woodward County Emergency Management to create a plan to locate storm shelters. With this plan, she discovered 619 storm shelters that now will be known to emergency services when disaster strikes. In the fall, she will be joining the U.S. Army.

Stansbury, a freshman at the University of Central Oklahoma, partnered with West Guthrie United Methodist Church to raise awareness for Teen Dating Violence. She now is majoring in human resources with the hopes of being an HR manager at a major company after graduation.
