EL RENO — Canadian Valley Technology Center’s Don Wilson will visit Massachusetts Institute of Technology this week for a professional development experience.

Wilson, of Norman, is the project-based learning coordinator at the school’s El Reno Campus. He was recently awarded a Lemelson-MIT Excite Award that is given annually to select educators nationwide. Wilson is the only Oklahoma recipient for 2018. He will participate in invention education learning opportunities in Cambridge, Massachusetts, for the Lemelson-MIT Program’s annual EurekaFest.

There, Wilson will meet teams of high school students, teachers and mentors. Wilson will attend hands-on invention workshops and discussions led by MIT professors. Wilson provides project-based learning guidance to CV Tech faculty, and he supervises the school’s maker space in which students from area schools experience project-based learning firsthand.

Excite Award winners qualify to submit a grant application this fall in hopes of securing a grant of up to $10,000 for the school. Jerome H. Lemelson and his wife Dorothy founded the program in 1994.

Grants are funded by The Lemelson Foundation and administered by the School of Engineering at MIT.
