Mustang to hire Pogi as offensive coordinator
After guiding John Marshall’s offense in a Class 3A state championship run, Aso Pogi is taking aim at the state’s largest classification.
Pogi has been named the new offensive coordinator at Mustang, My Mustang News reported Monday night. The move is pending board approval.
Pogi played quarterback at Oklahoma State in 2000 and 2001 before he transferred to Central Oklahoma.
He’s primarily coached in southwest Oklahoma, most recently at Cache High School.
But last season he was hired at John Marshall by former OSU teammate Rashaun Woods. The Bears averaged 42.3 points and 431.6 yards per game while going 14-1.
Meanwhile, Mustang averaged 31.7 points and 408.4 yards per game in Class 6A-I with a 5-5 record.
Owasso’s Keuhne commits to North Texas
North Texas is tied to Will Kuehne’s family, so it’s natural he’s going to play football there.
Kuehne, Owasso’s star senior quarterback, announced Tuesday his committed to North Texas on his Twitter page.
Kuehne’s grandfather is a North Texas graduate who has donated significant money to the school in Denton, Texas, that is coached by former Muskogee and Oklahoma running back Seth Littrell.
Kuehne moved to Owasso last year and led the Rams to the Class 6A-I state championship.
The son of former Oklahoma State golfer Trip Kuehne, Will was on The Oklahoman’s All-State team after he completed 67 percent of his passes for 2,788 yards and 24 touchdowns.
The 6-foot-1, 178-pound passer chose North Texas over offers Arkansas State, Columbia, Dartmouth and Maryland.
Westmoore’s Bohrofen honored
Westmoore star slugger Jace Bohrofen is now an All-American.
Bohrofen was named to the first team of the ABCA/Rawlings All-America Team on Tuesday after a breakout sophomore season.
The first baseman and outfielder was selected as the designated hitter.
Bohrofen batted .512 with 10 home runs and 59 RBIs while leading the Jaguars to a second straight Class 6A state runner-up finish.
He was named The Oklahoman’s Big All-City Player of the Year and selected to the All-State first team.
Edmond North’s Ledbetter headed to SNU
Edmond North baseball coach Grant Ledbetter is headed to the collegiate level.
Ledbetter resigned as the Huskies’ coach Tuesday and accepted a position as an assistant coach at Southern Nazarene University, Edmond Public Schools athletic director Mike Nunley told The Oklahoman in a text message.
Ledbetter spent two years at Edmond North and won 41 games, including 27 this spring in a run to the Class 6A state tournament.
“Really appreciate him and his work at Edmond North,” Nunley said in the text message.
