Steps to starting your own Little Free Library:

1. Find a location and caretaker.

Check your local zoning laws and figure out where you can legally install your library. The best locations have a lot of foot traffic and are highly visible. You also will need to identify at least one person to take care of the library and make sure that it remains clean and presentable.

2. Build or buy a library.

You can either get creative and build your own library from scratch or buy a library from the Little Free Library organization at https://littlefreelibrary.myshopify.com/. Another option is finding someone local who will build a library for you.

3. Register your library.

Once you register your library with the Little Free Library organization, you will receive a charter sign with your library’s own unique number. Registration gives you the option to have your library placed on a map so that anyone can find and visit your library and gives you access to discounted books.

4. Spread the word.

Tell your friends, family and neighbors about your new Little Free Library and use social media to engage your community with your library. Build a support system for your library.
