Innovation is a word tossed around frequently in the workplace. But sometimes you must shake things up to allow innovative ideas and fresh impulses to morph into the next big thing for your company.

Metro Tech Downtown Business Campus offers a breadth of innovative training and professional development programs to help businesses achieve just that and to catapult their talent to the next level.

“When we first opened the campus, we looked for ways to differentiate ourselves from other training providers,” said Karla Graham, director of the Metro Tech Downtown Business Campus (DBC). “We soon found from our clients that they were going to out-ofstate resources for training programs that were not available to them in the Oklahoma City market. We learned that differentiation required innovation and providing those higher quality courses is the path we’ve been on ever since.”

In the last year, the DBC has launched several new programs to help companies maximize their employees’ teamwork and leadership skills.

These include Metro-LEAD, a leadership development program for managers on the fast track, and Superstar Teams, a series of seminars drilling down into the dynamics of leading effective teams.

Now the DBC has partnered with RIVERSPORT OKC to present Conquer the Dragon, a unique allday team building event that combines classroom training and an on-the-water Dragon Boating experience.

This unique program combines in-class and on-the-water training to build relationships and maximize your team’s learning experience.

Conquer the Dragon provides world-class team training right here in Oklahoma. Unlike anything available in the training marketplace, its customized curriculum and Dragon Boating experience combine to encourage working teams to explore what makes them great and what’s holding them back from success.

Those who have conquered the dragon rave about its results.

“There is no comparison to paddling together in a dragon boat, focused on a task that includes everyone, counting on each other to bring their best effort. It was meaningful training for our executive team, along with a fun day out of the office experiencing what our own local community has to offer. It doesn’t get any better than that,” said Weston DeHart, president of CMS Willowbrook Inc.

DBC worked closely with RIVERSPORT to build the program.

“RIVERSPORT’s original team building program is great. We have land and water courses for every business, church group and sports team,” said Mike Knopp, OKC Boathouse Foundation’s executive director. “But being able to team up with the DBC and their experienced coaches allows us to build a unique course that you’ll be hard-pressed to find anywhere else.”

Conquer the Dragon is designed for working teams of eight to 22 people. During the customized course team members are challenged to take ownership of how they impact overall performance and develop practical solutions for team success.

“We designed this program to really push working teams to break through barriers they may not even know they’re facing. By the end of the course they’ll communicate better, work more efficiently as a team and be in a great position to take their business to the next level,” Graham said.

Conquer the Dragon’s key program benefits include an honest discussion about what is working and what is not within the organization. This highlights opportunities to develop relevant solutions to break through barriers and establish necessary building blocks for team success. Conquer the Dragon is an engaging way to build relationships among team members. Of course, Dragon Boat training on the Oklahoma River is part of the program to help reinforce the curriculum and provide a fun, out-of-office experience.
