MAPS 3 proposals OK’d
The MAPS 3 Citizens Advisory Board approved a one-year, $1.9 million contract extension with ADG PC, the architectural, design and construction consultant that oversees and coordinates MAPS 3 projects. The city council will give the final OK. The council also is expected to approve:
• A $2 million funding package for the Boathouse Foundation, including $760,000 to reimburse the foundation for money it spent on items such as cash registers, furniture and spare parts needed to open the MAPS 3 whitewater park in 2016.
• A $425,850 contract with Midwest Wrecking Co. to clear away what remains of the auto scrapyards and parts suppliers along the west side of S Robinson Avenue between Interstate 40 and the Oklahoma River, to make way for the lower section of the MAPS 3 downtown park.
Worth noting: Oklahoma City’s record $1.57 billion budget for fiscal 2019 officially took effect Sunday.

• Family aquatic centers open.
• Pools, rec centers and senior centers closed.

Shadid to retire from council
Ward 2 Councilman Ed Shadid said he would retire from the council when his second term ends next year. Shadid was first elected in 2011 and won re-election in 2015. He has been a watchdog on issues such as downtown redevelopment, tax-increment financing, and job-creation incentives for businesses. He successfully promoted the addition of sexual orientation to the city’s employment nondiscrimination policy in 2011 and addition of LGBT protections to the city’s housing discrimination ordinance in 2016.
They said it
“A sign of love for the city.”
— Ward 2 Councilman Ed Shadid’s characterization in 2015 of his thoughtful, and sometimes sharp, questioning of city officials about policy and spending proposals.
