Armstrong Auditorium announces 20th season

EDMOND — Armstrong Auditorium has announced the lineup of world-renowned artists for its 2018-2019 Performing Arts Series.

The 20th anniversar­y season opens Oct. 18 with the genre-defying trio Time for Three and continues Nov. 1 with violinist Anne Akiko Meyers, conductor Gerard Schwarz and the Mozart Orchestra of New York performing an allMendels­sohn program.

The famous Vienna Boys Choir will return for its fifth appearance Nov. 20; the renowned Bach Collegium Japan and its conductor Masaaki Suzuki will visit Dec. 4 as part of a rare North American tour; and the Russian National Ballet will be back Jan. 29 to present Tchaikovsk­y’s “Swan Lake” in its fifth Armstrong appearance.

Acclaimed clarinetis­t Julian Bliss and his Septet will play a tribute to the legendary “King of Swing” Benny Goodman Feb. 14; the Shanghai Opera Symphony Orchestra and pianist Hao Duandaun will perform works by Tchaikovsk­y and Rachmanino­ff Feb. 24; and Celtic Nights will sing, play and dance of “Oceans of Hope” in their Edmond debut March 11.

Returning for a fifth appearance on the Armstrong stage, the Canadian Brass will perform April 2 to close the season.

State fair tickets to go on sale

Tickets for the 2018 Oklahoma State Fair and some of its most exciting attraction­s go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday. The fair is set for Sept. 13-23 at State Fair Park.

Perennial favorite “Disney On Ice” returns with “Dare to Dream,” with 10 performanc­es between Sept. 13-18 at Jim Norick State Fair Arena. “Dare to Dream” will feature the “Disney on Ice” debut of Moana, along with favorite characters Anna, Elsa, Belle, Rapunzel, Flynn Ryder, Cinderella and more.

Tickets for “Disney On Ice presents Dare to Dream” start at $15 and include an outside gate admission to the fair when purchased by Sept. 12. An additional outside gate admission ticket is required if event tickets are purchased after Sept. 12. Outside gate admission tickets are priced at $12 for adults and children 12 and older and $6 for children ages 6 to 11; admission is free for children 5 and younger.

Popular country duo Big & Rich will take to the stage after the bulls have stopped bucking at the Profession­al Rodeo Cowboys Associatio­n Xtreme Bulls Tour & Concerts on Sept. 21 at the arena, with tickets ranging from $25 to $38.

Texas country hitmaker Aaron Watson will wrap up the PRCA Xtreme Bulls event Sept. 22, with tickets running from $22 to $35.

The bull-riding action begins each night at 7:30 p.m. with the concert following immediatel­y. Tickets for the PRCA Xtreme Bulls Tour & Concerts also include outside gate admission to the fair when purchased by Sept. 12.

Outside gate admission tickets and advanced unlimited carnival armbands also go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday. From Saturday thru Sept. 12, fair fans can save $15 when they purchase an advanced unlimited carnival ride armband.
