Connor Joe having career-best season

- CAMERON JOURDAN, STAFF WRITER

Oklahoma City Dodgers infielder Connor Joe has played for three organizations in the past year, but that hasn’t stopped him from having the best season of his professional career.

It didn’t take long for Round Rock to take its lead against Oklahoma City.

The Express have made quick work of scoring runs against the Dodgers at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, and that trend continued Thursday.

Oklahoma City dropped its ninth-straight home game — which ties a franchise record — losing 3-1 in the third game of a five-game series against Round Rock. The Dodgers managed only six hits, with the lone run coming on Connor Joe’s RBI triple in the eighth inning.

Scoring twice in the opening frame, Round Rock struck first for the third time in as many games in its series against Oklahoma City. Starting pitcher Brock Stewart, who has made nine appearances in Los Angeles this season, allowed six hits and three runs through the first three innings, as the Dodgers fell behind, 3-0.

On Wednesday, Oklahoma City fell behind 5-1 after four innings. Thursday’s start wasn’t much different, as the home squad trailed 4-0 after two.

Dodgers to have 89ers night on Saturday

Oklahoma City players and managers will look a bit different on Saturday.

The Dodgers are hosting an 89ers night, where players and coaches will wear special 89ers jerseys and hats throughout the game. Following the contest, the jerseys will be auctioned off via a silent auction to benefit the OKC Dodgers Baseball Foundation.

The Oklahoma City 89ers used to play at All Sports Stadium, which was located at the fairgrounds from 1962-97. The 89ers won two Pacific Coast League titles in 1963 and 1965. They captured two American Association titles in 1992 and 1996 before relocating to Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in 1998. After the move, they became known as the RedHawks.

Up next

The Dodgers are looking to close out their final series before the Triple-A All-Star break strong.

The final two games of a five-game series against Round Rock are Saturday and Sunday. Manny Banuelos is expected to take the mound Saturday while Drew Hutchinson is scheduled to start Sunday.

After the series, Alex Verdugo, Rocky Gale, Pat Venditte and Banuelos will head to Columbus, Ohio, to partake in the Triple-A AllStar Game.
