Dodgers allow most runs in five years

-

The Oklahoma City Dodgers are ready for a break.

The Round Rock Express beat the Dodgers 18-8 Sunday afternoon at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. The 18 runs were the most scored by an OKC opponent in five years.

Round Rock also recorded 21 hits, the most hits for a Dodgers opponent since last season when the team allowed 23.

The Express hit five home runs in the game, which is a season high for a Dodgers opponent.

OKC led 4-0 by the third inning behind home runs from Andrew Toles and Henry Ramos.

Scoring early is what has plagued the Dodgers in recent games, but it wasn’t a problem this time around.

They just couldn’t slow down the Express.

OKC’s collapse started in the fourth inning.

Logan Ondrusek came in to pitch for the Dodgers in the fourth and on his first throw, Scott Heineman blasted a solo shot to left field.

After a base hit, Round Rock hit its second home run of the inning. Round Rock finished the trifecta on an inside-the-park homer by Drew Robinson to tie the game at five.

Things only got worse for OKC.

Round Rock tacked on seven runs in the sixth inning, which surpassed the previous Dodgers opponent season high of five.

The Dodgers used six pitchers, three of which gave up at least four runs.

Ramos led OKC, going 3 for 3 with the home run and two RBI.

Up next

The Dodgers have the next three days off due to the All-Star break. OKC’s next game is July 12 against Round Rock.

OKC has four All-Star selections: Alex Verdugo, Manny Banuelos, Pat Venditte and Rocky Gale. Venditte was recently called up to the Los Angeles Dodgers and might not participate in the game.

OKC enters the All-Star break 46-39. They are just 2

½ games back of Colorado Springs in the American North Division despite going 3-12 over their last 15 games. AUSTIN MOSELEY, STAFF WRITER
