The Treasury Department reports today how much money Uncle Sam took in and paid out last month.

The May report showed that the federal government’s receipts and outlays translated into a deficit of $146.8 billion for the month. Economists expect the June shortfall to be a smaller $117.7 billion. In June last year, the government ended the month with a shortfall of $90.2 billion.
