Defending champion: Wagoner
Wagoner marched through district play again, this time setting the state’s 11-man record for consecutive wins. On Oct. 6, the Bulldogs beat Tulsa McLain to set the record and the next week won a nail-biter against rival Oologah. The streak reached 48 before Blanchard knocked off Wagoner in the quarterfinals. Now, Wagoner returns just four players on each side of the ball searching for new playmakers to step up.
Returning stars
Schyler Adair, RB, Wagoner: The 5-foot-11, 190-pound senior will receive the bulk of Wagoner’s carries, especially during the search for reliable receivers. Last season, Adair rushed for 1,231 yards and 14 touchdowns on 158 carries.
Kyren Johnson, RB/DB, Bristow: Tall and skinny at 6-foot-1 and 150 pounds, Johnson brings a lot of speed to the table as Bristow moves up from Class 3A. A threeyear starter, he’s picked up multiple Division II offers.
Daniel Queen, QB, Catoosa: Described as explosive by coach Aaron Meier, Queen returns after leading Catoosa to the playoffs. He’s part of nine returning starters on offense, including 6-5, 305pound Riley Teutsch up front.
Big question: Can Oologah continue dominance?
Oologah has been one of the state’s top teams in Class 4A of late, but with a new coach and graduation ta king its toll, how will it respond? Assistant Chase Kime has taken over after leading the defense the past few years. On that side, where Oologah has been dominant, just four starters return.
