Win in Rome for the Oklahoma State Cowboys

Michael Weathers led Oklahoma State with 10 points and five rebounds as the Cowboys posted a wire-towire win over the Netherland­s National Team reserves, 61-49, at the Pala Fonte Arena in Rome on Thursday.

The Cowboys jumped out to an 8-0 lead on the strength of a Cameron McGriff 3-pointer and never looked back in the second game of their European tour. Kentreviou­s Jones, Thomas

Dziagwa and Mike Cunningham each had eight points, while Cameron McGriff and Isaac Likekele each added five points and five rebounds.

OSU is in the middle of a 10-day European tour that includes trips to Venice, Rome and Athens. Prior to the game on Thursday, the Cowboys toured the Colosseum and visited Trevi Fountain.

The Cowboys will fly to Athens on Friday morning and will face a local all-star team on Saturday.

Cowgirls soccer picked to finish second in conference

Oklahoma State’s women’s soccer team is picked to finish second in the Big 12 in 2018, according to the Big 12 coaches poll released Thursday. Oklahoma is picked to finish eighth.

The Cowgirls won the 2017 Big 12 championsh­ip, snapping a five-year streak of titles by West Virginia, which is picked to win the conference this season.

The Cowgirls open 2018 with a preseason exhibition match vs. Missouri at Kansas City’s Swope Soccer Village Friday at 7 p.m. before kicking off the regular season with a match at Tulsa on Aug. 16.

OSU's Woodard vying for top soccer award

Oklahoma State senior forward Haley Woodard is one of 45 soccer players on the 2018 Women's MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List, it was announced today by the Missouri Athletic Club.

The Hermann Trophy is the most prestigiou­s individual award in college soccer and is presented annually to the most outstandin­g male and female players of the year.

Woodard became the fourth All-American in OSU soccer history in 2017 when she was selected to the United Soccer Coaches third team, and she was also the Big 12 Conference Offensive Player of the Year as a junior.

She led the Cowgirls with eight goals last season while also adding three assists as she helped OSU to a 16-4-3 record and a Big 12 regular season championsh­ip.
