The Oklahoman

Hey, Ladies!

-

We’re still firming up plans, but on Sept. 13 at American Propane, 7401 N Broadway Ext., I will host a special “Open Flame” event my wife is enthusiastically calling Lilith Fare.

I will be turning over the cooking duties that night from 6 to 8 p.m. to the female side of Oklahoma City’s chef community. I’ll be announcing the cooking roster next week, and it will be spectacular, but for those who want to get a jump on tickets, because they will be limited, we wanted to put the word out.

Tickets will be $50 for a chance to meet the city’s most talented spatula-wielding women

in between wine and beer tastings and a very cool lineup of female entrepreneurs.

Reserve your seats by calling 843-6868. Check back in next week for more details.

Comings and goings

Today we say goodbye to the original Irma’s Burger Shack, last week it was Mamasita’s. Each place served a common stretch of NW 63 dutifully for many years, and are now no more. No word yet on plans for either of those spaces, though replacement looks likely for at least one of the buildings, but the neighborhood now has more dining choices than ever before. Besides the newly minted Hopdoddy franchise and the imminent Slapfish arrival, we also have Osteria to look forward to later this year . ...

Rock & Brews, the concept backed in part by KISS members Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons, has closed . ...

Down the road at Chisholm Creek, they’re readying for the midSeptember arrival of Firebirds Wood Fired Grill, 1320 W Memorial Road, which specializes in steak, seafood, chicken and ribs. Oklahoma’s first Firebirds location will seat 230. The concept, born in Charlotte, North Carolina, will offer free lunch to first-responders on Sept. 11, which will precede the restaurant’s official opening.
