Remington Bark to highlight season opener
The annual thoroughbred horse racing season at Remington Park will kick off Friday, highlighted by the return of the Remington Bark charity dog event, the Oklahoma Derby Hat & Bowtie Contest, and celebrations to mark the 30th birthday of the track.
The thoroughbred season begins Friday with a post time of 7 p.m.
On Saturday, Remington Park will go to the dogs during the fourth annual Remington Bark charity dog event. Several hundred four-legged friends have attended each of the events the past three years.
The plaza will be open to dogs and their owners at 6 p.m., with live racing kicking off at 7 p.m. The first 100 families to arrive with a dog will receive a special “wag” bag stocked with canine goodies. Events on the plaza will include the return of a dog costume contest; dog-centric vendors and exhibitors; an agility course for dogs to run free of charge; cooling and drinking stations; a picture station; and on-track races for guests’ pet dogs.
Registration for dog races is $25 per canine and must be completed in advance online at RemingtonPark.com. All proceeds from dog races will go to the following pet charities: The Under Dog Rescue; Pet Angels Rescue of Oklahoma; OKC Pet Food Pantry; Tornado Alley Bulldog Rescue; Horse & Hound Rescue Foundation; Mutt Misfits; and the Bella Foundation.
