Son of famous atheist will speak in state

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

MOORE — William J. Murray, son of famous atheist Madalyn Murray O’Hair, will speak Sept. 6 at Randall University, 3701 S Interstate 35 Service Road.

Murray’s presentation will be part of the university’s Christian Leadership Series. He will be the special guest at a reception set for 5:30 p.m., followed by a dinner at 6 p.m. Murray will give a free talk at 7:30 p.m. After the presentation, he will sign copies of some of his books.

Twenty years after his mother was the plaintiff in the Supreme Court case Murray v. Curlett, Murray purchased Taylor Caldwell’s book “Dear and Glorious Physician,” which led to him to becoming a Christian in 1980.

The Supreme Court’s decision, resulting from Madalyn Murray O’Hair’s suit, effectively removed prayer from the public schools. The case was filed on his behalf as a teenager in Baltimore Public Schools.

Currently, Murray is the chairman of the Religious Freedom Coalition in Washington, D.C. From his office in the nation’s capital, he champions the rights of Christians in America and for persecuted Christians around the world. Under his guidance, the Religious Freedom Coalition manages aid and ministry programs for persecuted Christians in the Middle East and Africa. The two largest programs are Christmas for Refugees and Diapers for Refugees.

He frequently travels to the Middle East and to African nations, and has witnessed firsthand the results of the genocidal attacks against Christians.

His first book “My Life Without God” was first published in 1982 and shares details of his life in the home of his atheist mother. His most recent book is “Utopian Road to Hell,” which deals with the destructiveness of people such as Karl Marx and Adolf Hitler.

Attendees at the reception will receive a free signed copy of Murray’s book “My Life Without God” and have an opportunity to have their picture taken with him. Cost for the reception and the dinner is $35 per person.

Tickets may be purchased by calling 9129000 or going to the school’s website at ru.edu/ murray.
