Gameday traffic tips

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

NORMAN — Fans headed to the Oklahoma Sooners' season opener Saturday will want to avoid a few street closures near The Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.

There are no reported highway construction projects in Norman, but Interstate 35 lanes shift near S 19th Street in Moore and Indian Hills Road in Cleveland County as part of construction of the new SW 34 bridge over I-35. The speed limit is reduced in the work zone.

Norman police will only provide traffic assistance at all intersections along Lindsey Street from I-35 to Elm Avenue before and after the game.

After the game, officers will also provide traffic assistance along routes heading east from the stadium to 12th Avenue East and from Lindsey Street to Robinson Street along 12th Avenue East.

Lindsey Street will be one-way for eastbound traffic before the game and for westbound traffic after the game between Berry Road and Elm Avenue.

Brooks Street will also be one-way for eastbound traffic after the game from Jenkins Avenue to Classen Boulevard.

Norman police will no longer permit parking on Brooks Street between Jenkins Avenue and Classen Boulevard on game days. Any vehicles parked in this location on game day will be towed.

Public parking is limited on the main campus on game days, but free parking is available at the Lloyd Noble Center a mile south of the stadium. There is a shuttle that unloads one block south of the stadium on 1st Street. The shuttle provides trips to the stadium three hours before, and one hour after the game. Patrons may ride the shuttle for $5 roundtrip.
