OKLAHOMA TIES
NASHVILLE, TENN. — Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood, Maddie & Tae and Vince Gill are among the country music standouts with Oklahoma ties to receive nominations this morning for the 52nd Annual CMA Awards.
Brad Paisley and Underwood will return for their 11th year to host the Country Music Association’s annual event, which will broadcast live from Bridgestone Arena in Nashville at 7 p.m. Nov. 14 on the ABC Television Network.
Lambert, a former Tishomingo resident, is nominated for three awards. Not only is the native Texan the most-awarded female in CMA Awards history with 13 total wins, but she’s also the reigning Female Vocalist of the Year, earning her 12th consecutive nomination in the category this year. She garnered two nominations with Jason Aldean for their collaboration “Drowns the Whiskey” — for Single of the Year, along with producer Michael Knox and mix engineer Jeff Braun, as well as for Musical Event of the Year, bringing her total career nominations to 47.
Underwood, who hails from Checotah, garnered two nominations: for Female Vocalist of the Year, as well as for Video of the Year for “Cry Pretty,” the clip to the poignant title track to her upcoming album.
Oklahoma-Texas duo Maddie & Tae — Maddie Marlow, of Sugar Land, Texas, and Tae Dye, of Ada — are nominated for Vocal Duo of the Year. Frequent collaborator Gill, who was born in Norman and grew up in Oklahoma City, earned a nod for Vocal Event of the Year for “Dear Hate,” his duet with Maren Morris.
