USWNT announces timeline for hiring a GM
The U.S. Soccer Federation says it will identify a preliminary list of candidates for the new position of general manager for the women's national team by November.
The U.S. Soccer Board of Directors announced the creation of GM positions for the men's and women's national teams last December. Former U.S. midfielder Earnie Stewart started as GM of the men's side this month.
U.S. Soccer expects to identify up to 10 candidates over the next two months before conducting interviews through next year. The field will be cut to two or three before a final recommendation is made to the board.
Pitino says he’s done coaching
Rick Pitino knows his coaching days are most likely behind him. He still wants to be involved in basketball, where he's spent a lifetime.
"I think my time has passed, I really do," Pitino said of coaching again on Tuesday from the headquarters of The Associated Press.
It's been nearly a year since Pitino was fired from Louisville after the school acknowledged it's men's program was being investigated as part of a federal corruption inquiry. He wrote a book "Pitino: My Story" in which he maintains his innocence and tells his side of the events that led to his ouster from the school where he coached for 16 years and led to a national title in 2013 that was vacated because of scandals.
Pitino, who turns 66 this month, plans to stay involved in the game, speaking to college teams and coaches around the country this year.
