Rule of ‘Three’

Reception set for art exhibit of painter, former educator

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

Contemporary Art Gallery, 2928 Paseo, will showcase the paintings of local artist Lynden Wilcoxson during September. The exhibit “In Three” is a selection of old and new paintings and assemblages that are connected. Three pieces will be similar in style and shape, or they may be part of a series. There are also several triptychs featured.

“I enjoy the process of painting and building. I especially like finding a subject or object that can be broken down into its design elements and rebuilt in an interesting way,” Wilcoxson said in a news release.

“My art is not done in a ‘vacuum,’ but is inspired by my environment — an idea, object, story or event. Hopefully, one seeing my art will be positively inspired, entertained or intrigued.”

Wilcoxson, a retired educator, has been painting and drawing since childhood. In college, he minored in art and majored in music, and he has participated in art workshops through the years. He is a past president of the Oklahoma Watercolor Association and has shown in many local shows and several national shows. The artist has painted in oil, watercolor, and acrylic, and prefers working in acrylic for its fast drying time and the look achieved by layering coats of paint.

An opening reception is planned at the gallery during the Paseo Arts District’s First Friday gallery walk, from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday. The public is invited to attend, meet the artist, see his works, as well as works by other gallery members, and enjoy light refreshments and live music. The show runs through Sept. 30. Regular gallery hours are from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. For more information, call the gallery at 601-7474.

Other gallery members include Alan Ball, Deborah Burian, Verna S. Fuller, Linda Guenther, Renee K. Jones, KB Kueteman, Renee Lawrence and Vikki McGuire.
