OCU to kick off 67th opera season with ‘Side Show’

Oklahoma City University is kicking off its 67th consecutive season of opera and music theater Sept. 28-30 with the bittersweet Broadway musical “Side Show.”

Inspired by the true-life story of conjoined twin sisters Daisy and Violet Hilton, who performed on the vaudeville and burlesque circuit in the 1920s and 1930s, the season opener will feature a cast of 30 and a 19-piece orchestra, according to a news release.

Performances are 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, with a 3 p.m. Sunday matinee, in the Kirkpatrick Performing Arts Center, 2501 N Blackwelder. Tickets are available via 208-5227 or at www. okcu.edu/tickets.

Admission to main stage productions in Kirkpatrick Auditorium are $14 to $28, while tickets to spotlight productions in Burg Theatre are $12. Parking is free.

The world’s oldest collegiatebased opera and music theater company, OCU will explore the search for love and belonging with its six-show, 18-performance season.

• Nov. 16-18: “Susannah,” main stage.

• Feb. 22-24: “Cendrillon,” main stage.

• March 1-3: “L’Amico Fritz,” Burg Theatre.

• April 12-14: “Crazy for You,” main stage.

Opening night dinners — featuring a buffet themed to the evening’s production and musical entertainment by Bass School musicians — are planned in the atrium of the Bass Music Center for Friday main stage productions:

• Sept. 28: “Side Show.”

• Nov. 16: “Susannah.”

• Feb. 22: “Cendrillon.”

• April 12: “Crazy for You.” Dinner tickets are $25 in advance.
