Some seasons just bring a little more excitement. Fashion-wise, that is.

This fall is one of those seasons.

From plaid to shine, Western influence to animal magnetism and interesting color mixes to always in favor black, fall fashion offers plenty to spark enthusiasm.

“This fall, designers have given us a wide variety of trends to select from, whether it’s clean and minimal to oversized and over-thetop glamour,” said Cindi Shelby, director of new stylists for Worth New York. “There’s also a wide range of colors from unexpected pale pinks to warm earth tones and tons of vibrant red.”

Shelby said some of her favorite trends are ‘80s redux with strong shoulders and lots of leather, with black as the featured color. “We’re talking the ultimate glam power woman.”

She’s also loving all the plaids, particularly when they’re mixed with other prints. Mixing prints and patterns is a strong look.

Along with the menswear-inspired trend of glen plaid and houndstooth, there’s also a fresh take on tartan, especially red and black in styles that range from slim pants to highlow skirts.

A different feel from menswear is a 1970s throwback with flare pants, bell sleeves and sweater coats, most in earth and spice tones of mustard and cognac along with hunter green and navy. Mondrian prints are key.

Another trend that has emerged is that of dark florals. Think moody gardens with delicate florals or big, bold blooms in pretty and feminine silhouettes, Shelby said.

Eden Turrentine, owner of Jonque Mode in the Paseo Arts District, said novelty pants are a quick way to update a wardrobe and make a statement. Look for exaggerated flare, stripes and patterns, crop styles and high waists. And the sports influence continues with an athletic stripe on pant legs.

Jumpsuits for fall and winter are right in step and a nice option for upcoming holiday gatherings, she said. Consider one in a luxe or shiny fabric for extra glam.

While Western styles are always seen in Oklahoma, Turrentine said fall’s take often leans toward a prairie feel. Think long flowing dresses in tiny prints and denim shirts with ruffles.

Other standout looks include faux fur with a bold splash of color, high-shine fabrics, coats with voluminous proportions, fringe, matched pantsuits, slouchy sweaters, geometric print blouses and unexpected color combinations such as violet and brown or rust and ice blue.
