CPA value conference set for Sept. 19

The Oklahoma Society of Certified Public Accountants will hold a value conference Sept. 19 at the Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City campus.

The conference is named for its low cost for continuing professional education credits, the group said. The event will feature eight continuing education credits, offering sessions in ethics, blockchain technology, tax reform and cyber insurance.

Instructors include Jason Freeman, and Gregory D. Jones. Freeman is an attorney, CPA, author, law professor and trial attorney. He represents clients in litigation and disputes with a focus on federal and state tax controversies, as well as white-collar and financial disputes. Jones is a native Tulsan who graduated from Baylor University with a degree in accounting and has 25 years of experience in financial services and employee benefits.

Paper company gets help from lenders

PRYOR — Orchids Paper Products Co. has received another lifeline from its lenders, this time extending until Sept. 30 the deadline for the company to sell or refinance.

Orchids lenders previously set a deadline of Aug. 31. The company’s stock price tumbled over the past two weeks as the company made no comment after blowing past that deadline. Orchids produces much of its consumer staples like tissue paper and toilet paper in Pryor.

Orchids shares gained 6 cents, or 1.9 percent, Thursday to close at $3.27 a share, adding another three pennies in aftermarket trading following the deadline extension announcement.
