Being ‘Salt and Light’
The CBMC of Oklahoma City will present Mike Means with the 2018 Salt and Light Award on Oct. 9
Christian Business Men’s Connection (CBMC) will host its annual Salt and Light dinner gala at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 9 at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, 1700 NE 63.
The event is held each year to honor a respected Oklahoma leader whose life is the personification of the “salt and light” that Christ called all believers to be. This year’s honoree is Mike Means, executive vice president of the Oklahoma State Home Builders Association.
In this role, he coordinates state and legislative initiatives affecting the homebuilding industry and serves as the association’s chief lobbyist.
Means, an Oklahoma City native and graduate of the University of Oklahoma, previously served as Oklahoma County Assessor for 10 years.
Active with the interdenominational ministry of Bible Study Fellowship for more than 20 years, he became the teaching leader for the organization’s north Oklahoma City men’s group in 2004.
The volunteer role came at a price because the ministry’s teaching leaders cannot hold an elected office.
Faithful to follow where God led him, Means resigned from the county assessor’s office and joined the homebuilders association while taking on teaching responsibilities with Bible Study Fellowship.
Means and his wife, Mary, a schoolteacher, have two children and seven grandchildren.
Sponsors for the dinner include: Jasco, Civil & Engineering Consultants Inc. (CEC), BancFirst, Love’s Travel Stops, Hobby Lobby, R.K. Black, Kimray, OGE Energy, Intrust Bank, Total Medical Personnel Services, Central Oklahoma Home Builders Association, Access Financial Group, Hudiburg Auto Group and YMCA of Greater OKC.
Individual tickets to the dinner are $75. Tickets and table sponsorships may be purchased at cbmc.live/ salt18.
