Casady students engage in volunteerism

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

THE VILLAGE — Casady School’s Upper Division students spent Tuesday giving back to The Village through various volunteer activities at elementary schools and senior living centers.

“There is no better way to understand the community and the needs of others, than by volunteering your time in service,” said Casady Head of School Nathan Sheldon. “Casady students’ passion for service and their desire to give back to the community never ceases to amaze me.”

The sites for the service project were near the Casady campus and included Andrew Johnson Elementary School, Ridgeview Elementary School, Britton Elementary School, Brookdale Assisted Living and Memory Care, Lionwood Senior Living and Tuscany Nursing Center.

At Andrew Johnson Elementary School, freshman students served as reading mentors for thirdthrough sixth-graders. At Ridgeview Elementary School, sophomores engaged in reading activities with first- and secondgrade students. Juniors were “reading buddies” for third-grade students at Britton Elementary School, and Casady seniors played games, did arts and crafts, exercised and engaged in the art of polite conversation with residents of various senior facilities.

The service project was part of the Upper Division Service Learning Program, which provides opportunities for students to learn valuable skills and build relationships and friendships through service to their community.
