The Oklahoman

3-2-1 KICKOFF

- JOE MUSSATTO, STAFF WRITER

No. 6 Oklahoma hosts Baylor at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. Here’s what to look for:

3 Players to Watch

Parnell Motley: Baylor’s top three receivers are 6-foot-3 or taller. Motley and fellow starting corner Tre Norwood will give up three inches on the outside in a game that will test Oklahoma’s defensive backfield.

DaShaun White: Coach Lincoln Riley mentioned the true freshman middle linebacker as a player who should see the field more. White has seven tackles in three games played.

T.J. Pledger: Pledger is the third option in Oklahoma’s backfield behind Trey Sermon and Marcelias Sutton, but the true freshman has a chance to emerge as OU continues to sort out its running back rotation.

2 Big Questions

How will the Sooners acclimate to a Big 12 attack after facing a grind-it-out Army team last weekend? Baylor averages 35 pass attempts per game compared to Army’s 12 per game. OU’s defense could quiet criticism if it’s able to slow quarterback Charlie Brewer and the Bears.

What will be made of the redshirt rule after Saturday? Any player who appears in their fifth game will be eliminated as a possible redshirt. OU hasn’t had an upperclassmen decide to transfer in season, but the five-game mark could have a crucial impact on whether that will remain the case.

1 Wild Prediction

Oklahoma will force Baylor into three interceptions. The Sooners have snagged four interceptions through their first four games, but there should be plenty of opportunities Saturday. Though Brewer has been careful with the ball this season, having thrown just a single pick.
