United Methodist General Conference Discussion

Where: Christian Life Center at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 222 NW 15.

Traditionalist Plan
• Maintains current language in the Book of Discipline.
• Provides greater detail on complaint process and definitions.
• Requires conference Board of Ministry to certify they will uphold provisions in the Discipline regarding homosexuality.
• Sets minimum penalties for conducting same sex marriage.
• Provides for gracious exit (to those going to another group of 50 or more, or established denomination).
• Requires contribution to Conference’s share of unfunded pension liability.
Connectional Conference Plan
• Creates three value-based connectional conferences, similar to jurisdictions, that offer distinct definitions of accountability, contextualization, and justice: Traditional, Unity, Progressive.
• Each jurisdiction will decide which connectional conference it will join.
• Annual conferences will follow the jurisdiction, but process exists to allow individual conferences to join another conference.
• Local Churches will follow their annual conferences, process to join another exists.
• Active and retired clergy will follow their conferences, unless they opt to join another.
• Active and retired bishops choose which conference they will affiliate with.
• Requires a number of constitutional amendments.
