Del City’s Jahkobie Smith breaks through in rout

A full week of practice at quarterback worked wonders for Del City’s Jahkobie Smith.

The sophomore backup quarterback made his second straight start during Friday’s 49-13 rout of Putnam West, and he dominated by accounting for six touchdowns.

Smith completed 17 of 21 passes for 264 yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing for 155 yards and three touchdowns on 15 carries.

“It was unbelievable how much better he got in a week after the Choctaw game,” Del City coach Mike Dunn said in a text message.

“He went off. It was pretty spectacular.”

Smith also found a connection with star receiver Jeff Foreman, an Arkansas State commit. Foreman caught 10 passes for 198 yards and all three of Smith’s passing TDs.

Smith is normally the Eagles’ starting free safety. He has been filling in for Quinlan Ganther, who is dealing with a minor injury.

Smith led Del City to a 22-20 victory on Sept. 21 against Choctaw. But Dunn said if Ganther is healthy this week against Deer Creek, both quarterbacks will play.

El Reno off to best start in nearly a decade

Behind the work of two running backs, El Reno was able to run over Noble on Friday.

Senior De'Kota Wilson and junior Kord LaFoe rushed for 134 yards and 114 yards respectively as El Reno took down Noble 33-25 in the District 5A-1 matchup.

El Reno is now 4-1 and a winner of four straight.

It's the program's best start to a season since 2009, when that team finished 12-1 with a trip to the Class 5A state semifinals.

Quarterback Dorian Plumley also rushed for 75 yards and three touchdowns and threw for 161 yards as El Reno racked up 486 yards of total offense.

Noble was led by quarterback Hayden Lingle, who threw for 303 yards and rushed for more than 100.

Due to weather conditions in Week 4, Noble was forced to play two games this past week. The Bears faced off with Duncan last Monday, a 35-13 loss, before taking on El Reno on Friday.
