Hair of the Dog event to benefit pet care

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

NORMAN — The fourth annual Hair of the Dog — Oktoberfest will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday in east downtown Norman.

The event, which will be hosted by STASH, will include live music and food from The Fried Taco, Plato’s Provisions and Holey Rollers Donuts, all benefiting Annie's Rescue Foundation. Funds raised from the Hair of the Dog will be used to provide veterinary care for pets of people who need assistance.

This year's event will include 11 Oklahoma breweries joining the festivities, including 405 Brewery, Anthem Brewing Co., Beer is Good Brewing Co., COOP Ale Works, Crossed Cannons Brewery, Iron Monk Brewing Co., Lazy Circles Brewing Co., Prairie Artisan Ales, Red Earth Home Brewers, The Brewhouse and Twisted Spike Brewery.

“This is our favorite event of the year," said Rebecca Bean, STASH owner. "Everyone loves the chance to experience the variety of our local breweries, the dynamic food offered by local food trucks, live local music and the friendly vibe."

A live aerial dance troupe will perform this year. Also, people are invited to compete in a lip sync contest at 7:30 p.m. Local musician and lip sync enthusiast Geoffrey Burch will emcee the contest and encourages participants to dress up and perform for bragging rights and prizes.

"As a community we can come together to help our shelter overcome the pet overpopulation situation," said Sereta Wilson, Ward 5 city council member and founder of Annie's Rescue Foundation. "One way to do that is to provide low-cost solutions for people that love their pets. The monies raised through this event will help provide access to a veterinarian and ultimately help owners keep their pets."

All ages are welcome at the event. Well-behaved pets also are invited to the pet-friendly event.

“We want everything we do to be an inclusive, good time for all,” said Holly Jones, STASH manager.

Local artist Debra Hogue, specializing in pet portraiture, will be on hand for pet sketches with a suggested minimum donation of $5. All proceeds will benefit the fundraiser.

Tickets, which include admission to the festival and six beer tastings, are $15 in advance and $20 the day of the event. VIP tickets are $25 and include eight drinks, early entrance and a commemorative glass.

Tickets may be bought at stashok.com, in person at STASH, 412 E Main St., or by calling the store at 701-1016. STASH specializes in Americanmade, and ethically produced wares, gifts and art.
