Skydance Bridge to glow green for Mental Health Day

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

Oklahoma City’s Skydance Bridge will glow green on Wednesday to mark World Mental Health Day.

The Green Shoe Foundation of Oklahoma City is behind the effort to raise awareness of behavioral health issues.

World Mental Health Day is observed annually on Oct. 10, with the aim of raising awareness of mental health issues around the world and mobilizing efforts in support of mental health.

The Green Shoe Foundation is a nonprofit committed to improving and impacting individual lives and communities through self-discovery, awareness, education, programs and resources.

“With every life comes challenge,” said Dr. R. Murali Krishna, cofounder and president of the Integris James L. Hall Jr. Center for Mind, Body and Spirit, Integris Arcadia Trails Center. “How we deal with challenge is central to a life well-lived. The human spirit is resilient. We can grow through pain and become whole again — even vibrant.”

Mike Brose, chief empowerment director of Mental Health Association Oklahoma, said mental health underpins all health.

“Without good mental health, overall health and wellness is compromised,” Brose said.

Green Shoe Foundation Executive Director Jeanean South said the group is grateful for the symbol of the bridge lighting to raise awareness.

“In Oklahoma and throughout the world, so many suffer from childhood trauma and behavioral health concerns, and World Mental Health Day is a chance for Green Shoe Foundation to help those who don’t know where to turn,” South said.
