Group to host Pup Cup
Arts conference planned
The 2018 Oklahoma Arts Conference will be Oct. 24-25 in Oklahoma City’s Film Row district.
Organized by the Oklahoma Arts Council (OAC) in partnership with Oklahomans for the Arts, the two-day event will feature sessions led by nationally recognized leaders in the arts, as well as dozens of Oklahoma presenters and panelists.
Offering professional development and networking opportunities, the 2018 conference will include sessions led by Janet Brown, retired president and CEO of Grantmakers in the Arts; Arlene Goldbard, writer, speaker and consultant; Margie J. Reese, executive director of the Wichita Falls Alliance for Arts and Culture; and Naomi Schliesman and Jun-Li Wang of Minnesotabased Springboard for the Arts.
Oklahoma City’s 21c Museum Hotel will serve as the center of 2018 conference activity. Sessions will take place at the hotel and in spaces throughout Film Row.
Two conference-related events being offered at no cost include a pre-conference traditional arts forum on Oct. 23, and a post-conference Oklahoma Arts and Military Summit organized in partnership with the Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art on Oct. 26.

Locally based nonprofit, Pastime with Purpose, is hosting the second annual Pup Cup OKC 5K-9, 9 a.m. to noon Sunday at Stars and Stripes Park.
The event will feature onsite dog-friendly and fitness oriented vendors, music, food trucks and more. Each runner will receive a Pup Cup T-shirt, finisher medal, and schedule permitting, the opportunity to meet Andrew Heaney, Oklahoma native and starting pitcher for the Los Angeles Angels. Heaney and other professional athletes have joined together with Pastime with Purpose to help raise awareness and deliver impact to underserved groups in the U.S. and abroad.
This year’s Impact Partner for the Pup Cup is The Children's’ Hospital at OU Medical Center Dog Therapy Program. Awareness Partner is Fields and Futures.
Registration is $35 to run solo, $45 to run with your furry friend.

Round Barn festival set
ARCADIA — Country and red dirt singer-songwriter Melissa Hembree and her band Whiskey Union will be the special musical guests for Sunday's Round Barn Rendezvous at the Arcadia Round Barn.
The Okemah musicians will play from 2 to 4 p.m., after the monthly jam session by local musicians which starts at noon.
The Rendezvous will be accompanied by the Round Barn’s annual Down Home Oklahoma festival.
Down Home Oklahoma will be from noon to 5 p.m. on the grounds and in the lower level of the Round Barn. Musicians will play in the loft.
