Trees donated for Norman giveaway
The Houston-based Apache Corp. and the Tree Bank Foundation of Oklahoma will provide 900 Norman households a free tree this fall.
Residents may request a tree from assorted oak, red maple, Chinese pistache, pine, crape myrtle, cypress, elm and redbud species.
Each tree should come in a 3-gallon container, will typically be about 1 inch in diameter, and come with a tree planting and watering guide.
Those wanting to participate in the giveaway must be registered to be eligible and must meet the following requirements:
• Be a resident of Norman (proof of residency required).
• No commercial or rental properties.
The program is limited to one tree per household.
Registration will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday. To register go to http:// www.normanok.gov and click on Free Tree Giveaway, or go to the Facebook Page at www. facebook.com/normanokparks.
Tree distribution is planned from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 2 at Reaves Park, 2501 Jenkins Ave.
To pick up trees, participants must bring their request/confirmation documentation, which may be printed at home or shown on a phone. Confirmation letters will not be mailed.
Launched in 2005, the Apache Tree Grant Program has donated more than 4 million trees to nonprofit organizations in 17 states.
