Homeowner shoots alleged auto burglar

A homeowner opened fire on a man breaking into his pickup Thursday morning, police chief Steven Cox said.

The man who was shot has been hospitaliz­ed, and the homeowner is being questioned by police.

The homeowner told investigat­ors he caught the man about 6:30 a.m. breaking into his pickup parked in his driveway in the 1200 block of Belford Avenue. Nichols Hills police requested OSBI assistance.

The man who was shot was found hiding between nearby houses on Belford Avenue and arrested by police.

Cox did not say whether the man had a weapon.

It will be up to the district attorney’s office

to determine wether the shooting was justified under Oklahoma law, Cox said. The homeowner is not in custody.

Names of those involved have not been released.

Man struck, killed by train Wednesday

A 23-year-old Texas man was struck and killed by a train Wednesday afternoon, the Oklahoma Highway

Patrol reported.

About 3:05 p.m. Wednesday, Christophe­r Kapps Smith, of Garland, Texas, standing on railroad tracks near State Highway 77, just north of Guthrie city limits. The train blew its horn, but Smith did not move and was struck, troopers said.

Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.

There were no other injuries, the patrol reported.
