Authorities ID man killed by officers Monday
A suspected vehicle thief shot and killed by Canadian County officers on Monday has been identified as a 24-year-old with a lengthy criminal history.
The shooting happened about 1 p.m. Monday after Alexander G. Lindahl crashed a stolen pickup on U.S. 81, just north of Okarche.
Five officers with the Canadian County sheriff’s department shot Lindahl after he came out of the pickup with a handgun, said Canadian County Sheriff Chris West.
The pickup was stolen from a Braum's Dairy Farm near Tuttle.
At the time of his death, Lindahl had no Alexander G. Lindahl
identification on his person, West said.
The state medical examiner’s office had to rely on fingerprint analysis to identify the man.
Lindahl’s cause of death was a gunshot wound to the chest and his manner of death is considered a homicide, the medical examiner’s office reported Thursday.
Court records show Lindahl was previously convicted in Canadian County District Court for a number of minor crimes, mainly larceny.
He served prison time in Oklahoma on convictions of grand larceny and selling or providing alcohol to a minor.
West said Lindahl was driving a vehicle that was reported stolen from Oklahoma City, which he abandoned near the farm and then stole a pickup from the business.
Speeds reached over 100 mph as Lindahl fled from about a dozen law enforcement vehicles from four different agencies.
Of the eight Canadian County officers involved in the pursuit, five opened fire on Lindahl, West said.
The five men, ranging in rank from a major to deputy sheriff, have been placed on paid administrative leave pending a review of the shooting by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.
