Walking ‘In Her Shoes’

Interfaith Alliance of Oklahoma’s one-day training event is aimed at helping clergy and others see what life is like for domestic violence victims.

The Interfaith Alliance of Oklahoma will offer a one-day training and interactive presentation called “In Her Shoes” from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 25 at Wildewood Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 6900 N Kelley.

The event will include a domestic abuse simulation that is designed to help participants gain a better grasp of what life is like for victims of domestic violence. The program is being held in conjunction with Domestic Violence Prevention Month in October.

“The Interfaith Alliance is offering this training to clergy and staff of community agencies and organizations to learn about the complex and dynamic nature of domestic violence and specific barriers that victims of domestic violence face each day,” Dr. Noel Jacobs, a child psychologist, who serves on the board of the Interfaith Alliance.

Jacobs said clergy and others who participated in the Interfaith Alliance’s 2016 one-day seminar about domestic violence are particularly encouraged to register for “In Her Shoes.” The 2016 conference called “Making a Difference: A Faithful Response from Faith Leadership to Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault” was held at Oklahoma City Community College.

Training presented at the “In Her Shoes” program will be conducted by the University of Oklahoma Ann and Henry Zarrow School of Social Work in conjunction with the Haruv Institute.

Cost for the program is $15, which includes materials. If registration for the program is received by Thursday, lunch also will be provided.
