Edmond residents offered free trees

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

EDMOND — Free trees will be made available to some Edmond Electric customers through an upcoming program.

Edmond Electric and The Arbor Day Foundation are teaming up again through the Energy-Saving Trees Program, which will offer free trees along with an easy-to-use online mapping tool to take the guesswork out of tree planting.

“Edmond Electric recognizes the importance of trees for health and quality of life, and they can also help lower energy costs,” community relations coordinator Jessica Lyle said. “Planting the right tree in the right place will not only lower energy costs, but will provide comfort for families for years to come.”

There will be 150 trees available to Edmond Electric customers only. Residents will be able to reserve a free tree beginning Monday by going to www. arborday.org/edmondelectric.

Trees will be available for pickup from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday or 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 20 at Bickham-Rudkin Park, E 33 Street and Rankin Terrace. Residents who took advantage of the program in April 2018 will need to wait at least one distribution before reserving another tree.

Available species include eastern redbud, green giant arborvitae, goldenraintree, loblolly pine and chinquapin oak.Trees are limited to one per customer/household.
